La Roma Pizzeria

History

La Roma Pizzeria

Russell Digristina is a farmer from Schuyler, NY who desired to have his own business. With a wife and children coming into his world he began his journey and ultimately created a successful restaurant business he is proud to stand behind today.

As a 1973 graduate of Whitesboro Senior High, and not enough ambition to go to college, Russell ventured out into the work world and landed a job as a machinist at Hamilton Digital (a digital head recording manufacturer in Utica, NY). After spending nine years with this company, he finally made his way back to the family farm to help his father with the family dairy and produce business. It was on this very family farm where Russell surely became a man at a young age, learning everything there was about the fresh produce and dairy business. Russell soon became interested in learning how to cook. After mastering the art of preparing homemade Italian dishes at the age of 33, he decided he wanted to become a restaurant owner so he could offer his family recipes for everyone to enjoy. Russell spent five years on the family farm, saving enough money to open up a pizzeria in Rome, NY. Today, we call it LaRoma's Pizzeria and Restaurant. It is located on the corner of E. Bloomfield St. and Floyd Ave. in a beautiful building that was bought and renovated. The Grand Opening was on March 8, 1988 and after only three weeks in business, we were a hit! Everybody soon began discovering some of the best pizza, wings and calzones in Rome and the surrounding community. With the help and dedication of some key employees along with his family, the business grew exponentially and the business quickly outgrew the current space. LaRoma’s completed a major expansion in 2001, growing from 1,200 to 3,000 sq. ft. The design of the new restaurant is state-of-the-art with a large open kitchen area, which has allowed us to expand our menu from pizza and wings to items such as veal, chicken, seafood, and pasta dishes. With Russell’s old family recipes in hand he started creating Italian specialties that are imaginative and very popular with our customers. In addition to developing our extensive menu we have assembled a staff that concentrates on "Service, Service, Service". Because, at the end of the day it's all about our customers who are a big part of the LaRoma's family and its continued success.

We look forward to sharing our family recipes and experiences with our wonderful staff and customers throughout Central, NY for years to come.
